Dear Dax, Chad, Courtney and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. She and I worked together with the Department of Education in the 1960’s and remained lifelong friends. I’d like to share a few memories.
We celebrated many New Year’s Eves together before she got married. She was one of my wedding attendants in 1964. One memorable trip we had was to Daytona Beach in 1963. Neither of us were very good with maps and directions (and remember, this was well before GPS and cell phones), but in spite of that, we made it to Daytona and back safely. We looked forward to our almost weekly seafood meals at The Oaks Restaurant in Panacea and our frequent sunbathing at Mashes Sands.
She was so proud when she became a mother to you two boys and just as proud when she became a grandmother. After retirement and for the last few years we hadn’t kept in touch as well, but we could always count on our birthday phone calls. She was one of my oldest and dearest friends, and I cherished our friendship. I will miss her deeply and especially on my birthdays. I pray for your comfort and peace at this difficult time.
