Phillip Lamar Carter's Obituary
Phillip Lamar Carter passed away Friday, July 22 unexpectedly at home. Phil was born at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida on July 5, 1955 to loving parents Robert Claire Carter and Betty Sue Moore Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Bob and Betty Carter) and is survived by his former wife Margaret (Missy) Davis Whiddon, their sons Brian Clayton Carter (Krystal) and Travis Fletcher Carter (Kathryn), grandchildren Clayton, Mitchell, Kyle, Lucas and Tessa, brothers Robert Joseph Carter (Gracie) and nephew Robert Joseph Carter II, Floyd Grady Carter (Kelley Moore Carter, deceased) and nieces Tabitha Couch Harrison and Heather Couch Carraway, Christopher Carter (Lucy) and nieces Sara Carter Josey, Katie Carter and Grace Carter. He was proud of his five grandchildren and was known as “Motorcycle Papa,” and just as proud of his nephew and nieces and their children.
He graduated from Florida High in Tallahassee, and after a long career in the cable business, retired from Comcast Cable. In between, he lived his life passionately about his motorcycle career as a professional motocross racer, his family and friends, and hunting. After his retirement, he spent many hours restoring classic motorcycles, working on friends’ motorcycles, and hunting. In recent years he started the Phil Carter Old Timer’s MX Reunion. The family would like to continue this tradition as a memorial reunion.
His family would like to thank the many friends that just “showed up” to be supportive and to help “take care of business.” We would not have been able to do this without you.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 14, 2022 at The Warrior on The River, 9330 West Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, FL 32304 at 3-5pm. Kevin Cozadd, Minister at MXers for Jesus will preside. Interment of ashes will take place privately at a later date.
The Celebration will be a casual event and the family welcomes anyone who wishes to share a “Phil” story or make a toast.
Because of his passion in the MX community and in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting volunteers and donations for the Annual Phil Carter Old Timer’s MX Reunion.
