Firstly, a big, big ton of thanks. While I do not have the insider's access
to records as you do, I thought we had done a somewhat throrough job of fact
finding between all of the websites and emails we had uncovered. I
appreciate your taking the time to go the extra mile.
And while your response actually raises more questions, I guess we are
dissapointed and saddened by the news. Now we ask ourselves, how extensive
were the lies? Did he even serve in the marines, I ask myself? He had a
Marine Corps bulldog on his forearm. Friends of friends told us he used to
sport a fruit salad bar on a cowboy hat he would wear. Was it all a lie?
What a shame. Anyway, Jim, thanks again. At the moment, I have no real
interest in pursuing the search further. Thanks for your offer of additional

I just happen to have a book and a 2-CD's (both from HQMC) that name the
units and their location during any time of the Vietnam era. Like yourself,
I was early Vietnam... came over with the 1st Marine Brigade from Hawaii
with 2/4 in 1965. Prior to that I myself was with B-Recon in Hawaii (short
stint until I was injured in a training exercise) and like most veterans of
any era...I do not like or tolearate WannaBee's.
I've contacted some old friends (those that have no problems checking
anything out with HQMC...both MOH recieipients from VN) and it appears that
Mr. Tabaka is a true wannabee.
Copies of monthly Company Rosters are available from HQMC. If you need the
address for that let me know and I'll look it up. I've used them several
times to prove or dis-prove a persons allegations of service with a unit.
We had a Marine Major (a mustang) claim that he served with 2/4 during
OpStarlite and earned several medals...lets just say he was asked to resign
his membership with the Marine Mustang Officer Association.

Basically, historical curiosity. He was one of about a dozen of us from

I knew Joe Abal when he was an auctioneer. WHAT A CROOK he was talking with this phony southern accent, with this smile that you knew was fake. He was hiding a lot of pain, mental pain. he4 had issues. But the worst shit, he would put that o0ld ugly lady, betty evans to work as a "shill" in the audience to drive up prices. He was a crook to be sure. I knwoi he was having gopher sex with that old lady she would come up from miami leave her husband there and stay wi9th abal.
I met Joe when he first arrived in Tallahassee, late seventies, he was restoring a early 70s chevelle and he bought a lot of parts from the store I was managing at the time in Tallahassee. I knew he was from up north, PA I think and I couldn't understand why he spoke with phony, fake southern accent.
I thought is strange. and boy did he like to talk about himself. Thgen I met Betty the old lady he was always with. THings came into focus. Very strange relationship btwn them as Betty was married and still is to a guynamed Gale, a real loser.
I grew up with Joe Abal, part of the so called crudo gang. I remember back in the day when joe got his draft notice in 67-68. He had talked about going to Canada; he started eating a ton of food, mostly bananas! he put on about 40 lbs and went to buffalo and failed the physical: 4F!! I remmber him boasting about not having to go to Nam. Fast forward, I talked to one of his motocycle buddies who said abal got so fat he couldn't put his arms by his siode, he stopped talking to people, he was alway7s with that old ugly lady who is pictured here, she is married to GALE, what a pice of work he is!!
The Abal family knew my family (Quintans) when they lived in NY/NJ.
Joe Abal flunked the first grade in NY. Thenthey moved to Erie. He went to St Marys and then St JOhns. He was always jealous of his smarter brother.
Abal fell prey to his own mental diseases, his ego and his hubris. Wow!! He must have weighed 400 lbs!!
