Lee D. Sofer 's Obituary
The wonderful and genteel Mrs. Lee D. Lyons Sofer added to the brightness of Heaven on March 21, 2020. She was born the oldest daughter of Robert and Ruth Lyons on January 24, 1930, in Georgia. She got her beginnings as a nurturer with each of her siblings: Mary Eunice Lyons Coopwood, James Lyons, and Odell Lyons. Her brothers preceded her in death in addition to her dear husband, Suffragan Bishop Edward R. Sofer.
Mrs. Sofer and her husband were servants of God who espoused Christian education within the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) religious organization while living in Cincinnati, Ohio. While her husband taught adults, she was the choice teacher of toddlers whom she delighted for decades. In 1979, they moved to Fairhope, Alabama where he pastored and she helped to nurture and encourage members of Good Samaritan Sanctuary for 24 years. Additionally, for a nine year period during that time she faithfully and lovingly served as his sole care partner after he had a stroke in 1995. They relocated to Tallahassee, Florida in 2004.
Her son, Gregory Lee Sofer of Cincinnati, Ohio, proceeded her in death in 2013. Sherrie A. May (Donald), of Peoria, Arizona, Dr. Regina E. Sofer, Tallahassee, Florida, and Valli L. Johnson, Cincinnati, Ohio, along with many others in PAW churches across the nation have treasured and endearing memories of her. In addition to her daughters, she leaves her sister and a brother-in-law, John W. Sofer, and her dear friend, Mrs. Lottie Ruth Bouie of Bainbridge, GA to cherish her memory, along with the bevy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she much loved as well as nieces, nephews, and “adopted” children.
She was an unparalleled wife, mother, homemaker, care partner and pastor’s wife. Faithful, diligent, caring, and quick to comfort others, Mrs. Sofer will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and cheerful laughter. She already is missed.
Mrs. Sofer's family and friends wish to express their deep appreciation to those special members of her care team who showed immense compassion and tenderness towards her.
Details for a Homegoing Celebration will be forthcoming after gatherings are permitted. Donations to Tallahassee Area Threshold Singers and Big Bend Hospice are invited in lieu of flowers.
