CMSgt. John Wesley Anderson (Ret.)'s Obituary
CMSgt. John W. Anderson (Ret.), 87, left his earthly body to enter eternity with the Lord in the comfort of his home, on October 5th, with loved ones by his side.
John was born on October 31,1935 in the small coal mining town of Kimball, West Virginia, to Clarence William and Lora Mae Carlton Anderson. John attended Welch High School until joining the U.S. Air Force at age seventeen. He dedicated his life to serving the country, which he loved, in the U.S. Air Force, active duty, and reserves. He was originally trained as an aircraft maintenance technician and early in his career was stationed at various bases in the U.S. He also had tours in Morocco, Africa, as well as Sevilla and Madrid, Spain. Eventually his career brought him to Marietta, GA where he worked for a short time at Lockheed Martin, then Dobbins Air Force Base where he spent the remainder of his career. After 35 years of faithful service and continued advancements to his career, he retired from both U.S Air Force and U.S Civil Service on October 31, 1995, as Chief Master Sergeant.
John was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and son. He loved to joke around and laugh. Though John never officially obtained a college degree he did complete two years of collegiate studies. He was an avid reader, and eloquent in the art of written word. Throughout his life he wrote many beautiful poems, political writings, and had many “letters to the editor” published in the Tallahassee Democrat. In his younger days, he was a car enthusiast and throughout his life enjoyed tinkering on his automobiles and completing home projects.
On July 15,1999 John married the love of his life, his “Chiquita”, Alba Lucia Gonzalez Anderson. They had twenty-four wonderfully, blessed years together. John and Alba lived in Marianna, FL before moving to Tallahassee in 2000.
In addition to his loving wife, Alba, John is survived by: his sister, Judith Mullins of Kennesaw, GA; daughter, Janeen Anderson of Acworth, GA; son by marriage, Carlos Moreno (and Catherine) of Tallahassee, FL; daughter-in-law, Missy Graves Anderson of West Lafayette, IN; his grandchildren, Jordan Anderson, Jake Anderson, Gabriel Moreno, Nicolas Moreno; as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws he loved dearly.
John was preceded in death by his parents, many extended family and friends, but he experienced great heartache when his beloved son, Craig W. Anderson, died on July 6, 2021 at the age of 44.
John will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
An honorary military service will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
