Mr. Jerry Wayne Sumner's Obituary
Jerry Wayne Sumner, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024.
Born on August 6, 1953, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Frank and Betty Sumner, Jerry graduated from Tift County High School in Tifton, Georgia. He dedicated much of his life to a rewarding career in the trucking industry, retiring in 2016. Alongside his professional achievements, Jerry served with distinction as a volunteer firefighter, reflecting his deep commitment to his community.
In 1994, Jerry met Maxie, his beloved soulmate. They were set to celebrate 30 years of marriage on October 28, 2024. Together, they successfully ran an arts and crafts business for nearly twenty years. Jerry had a profound appreciation for woodworking, often expressing his delight in the fresh scent of the wood. His creativity and craftsmanship were evident in the many projects he undertook around their home and in his artistic pursuits. He enjoyed drawing anything that inspired him and was always eager to tackle new DIY projects, sometimes with a helpful YouTube video.
Jerry was known for his generosity and kind-hearted nature. He was always willing to lend a hand to friends and neighbors, and his enthusiasm for life was truly infectious. An avid Florida State Football fan never missed watching a single game, plus he always recorded them to watch again later. He took great pleasure in shopping, fishing, visiting Disney World and St. Augustine, Florida, and simply enjoying the tranquility of his yard.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Maxie Sumner; his children Mandy Schieneman (and husband Jose) with their children Jaxton and Adeline; Robin Sandoval (and husband Joe) with their children Wyatt, Gracie, and Caroline; Sheri (husband Jason) with their children Jadyn and Jacob.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Betty Sumner; his brother, Frank Sumner; and his daughter, Becky Sumner.
At this time, there are no scheduled services. Jerry’s Facebook page will remain open for all who wish to share their memories and final tributes.
