James William York's Obituary
James William York (Jim) 83 of Tallahassee, Florida born to parents Carl and Annette York on November 17, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022.
Jim is survived by the love of his life, wife of 34 years Nancy Linnan. His children, daughter Ami York Trombino and husband Joseph, son Greg Harmon and wife Christy, son Mark Harmon and wife Melissa, four grandchildren, Graham, Ethan, Isaac, and Adelaide, sisters Lynda York and Kathy Dodd, brother Lance Roberts, brother in laws Mike and David Linnan, extended family, cousins, nieces, nephew, and dear friends. He is also survived by his dogs Walker and beloved Charlie boy. Jim was predeceased by his sister Carlynn York Calhoun.
He was a Navy veteran. He received a Bachelor of Science, Criminal Justice degree at Rollins College, and a Juris Doctor, Law degree at University of Florida Levin College of Law. Jim was a former Chief of Police at the Orlando Police Department, a former Commissioner at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, a former Deputy Attorney General at Florida Attorney General, and he retired as Deputy Chief Administrative Law Judge at Florida Division of Administrative Hearings.
Jim loved rescuing dogs, model railroading, reading books, fishing, eating gourmet food and traveling. He was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his charity, positive outlook, sense of humor, and his contagious laugh, his bigger than life heart and a smile that lit up any room he walked into.
A memorial service will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 27th, 2023. Tholley Taylor with Lifesong (850/765-3190 or lifesongfunerals.com) is assisting the family with arrangements.
