James William York (Jim) 83 of Tallahassee, Florida born to parents Carl and Annette York on November 17, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022. Jim is survived by the love of his life, wife Read Obituary
I met Jim when he became Deputy Attorney General and I was a young lawyer in the office. He was always supportive and provided me valuable lessons in how a public servant should conduct themself. May he Rest In Peace.

Jim York was both a good and a great man for his family and for the State He was the very definition of a fine public servant. He will be missed for his many talents but above all for his honorable service.

My Uncle Jimmy, my Mother’s brother, was a very special man. He was the most incredible, self educated, caring, witty, generous, loving and knowledgeable person I know. UJ was only educated to the eighth grade in Chattanooga, TN but got his GED and joined the Orlando Police Department where he swiftly climbed that ladder being the only person advancing to the Chief position from Lieutenant. He put himself through college, achieving his degree from Rollins College and completed Law School at UF ~all while raising his three children as well as was very present helping my mom with her household. UJ went on to several high positions in the state and acquired the respect and friendship of his peers. He retired as Judge but never stopped rescuing and providing the best care for any dog on God’s green earth in need. UJ is who I called for about important life advice or just to joke about how many dogs shared the bed with he and Nancy that night. It’s too soon UJ but I’m so happy to know you have many loving arms welcoming you in Heaven.

I met Jim in 2005 when his daughter, Ami and I went to visit him and his wife, Nancy. He was very kind and hospitable. It didn’t take me long to realize what a cool, funny, and awesome father Ami had. I had my first “meatless” chili that Jim had made that day and much to my surprise, it was delicious! Since then, Ami and I have gone on several road trips with Jim and Nancy, including New York City and upstate NY. We also visited Maine, where I never ate so much lobster in my life! I will never forget those times I spent with Jim or his funny jokes and quotes that I still use to this day. We will all miss Jim but we will remember him forever. Joe Trombino (son in law)

When I first met him seven years ago , he said I am so happy my son has found you. I asked “Mr. York how should I address you?” He replied “Darlin you just call me Dad “ he welcomed me with open arms , I was very proud to call him Dad he was extremely kind and loving and I am going to miss him and his smile that would light up the room, going to miss hearing his voice and him calling me Darlin. Rest in peace Dad, I love you.
