James Andrew "Andy" Lewis' Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Andrew "Andy" Lewis, 85, who was surrounded by his loving family when he left this world for his heavenly home on April 22, 2025.
Andy was born on February 12, 1940 in Mulberry, Florida to Murphy and Dorothy Lewis. He is a 1959 graduate of Bartow Senior High School where he was the quarterback of the football team. He was a member of the Florida National Guard. After graduation he began his career with the Florida Department of Transportation, where he retired after 35 years as an engineer. After a brief retirement he began working for the Bureau of Support Services with the Florida Marine Patrol , for
10 years as a bureau chief.
Andy spent countless hours in the woods, sharing his love of hunting with his family and friends. He traveled out west yearly to hunt, and enjoyed fishing for salmon in Alaska. He was a member of the Fork Creek Hunt Club.
Andy is predeceased by his mother Dorothy Reed, father Murphy Lewis, and his children Terri Lynn Lewis and James Michael Lewis, and sister Kathleen Barush.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Lewis, daughters Debra Dixon (Mike), Angela Aber (Frank) and Carolyne Floerke (Richard), daughter-in-law Catherine Lewis, and the mother of his children, Carol Lewis, his grandchildren Kristin Yarbrough, Brandi Skipper, Mark Lewis, Courtney Allen, and Chelsea Montford, Great grandchildren Laci and Dylan Yarbrough, Kayleigh, Nataleigh, and Nicolas Skipper, Jackson Montford, Ivy Joanos, and Oakley Mae, Elizabeth, Matthew, Adalynn, Aubrey, and Raelynn Lewis, Ezra and Nora Allen, and Jared, Austin, and Cole Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers David Lewis (Vonya), Francis Lewis, and John Barush (Melinda), and sisters Carolyn King (Mark) and Delores Mills.
He is also survived by his stepchildren Ric Hulshoff (Malinda), Kirk Hulshoff, Kristin Free (Dave), Kimberly Griffin (Bill), twenty step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and countless friends who became family.
Andy will always be remembered for his kindness, warmth, wisdom, and love for his family, and he will be profoundly missed by all of those who loved him.
