MSgt. James Walker Dunson, Sr. (Ret.)'s Obituary
MSgt. James Walker "Jim" Dunson, Sr. (Ret.), 83, of Peachtree Corners, GA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 15, 2023.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Lifesong Funeral Home, 20 S. Duval St., Quincy, FL. A graveside service will be held at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 284 McCall Bridge Rd., Quincy, FL, on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
Jim was born in Eclectic, Alabama to Robert Lee and Elzie B. Pressley Dunson. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960 and retired in 1981 with the rank of E-7 Master Sergeant. Among all decorations, medals, citations and campaign ribbons Jim earned throughout his career, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Jim was a dispatcher for the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office before retiring from the Florida Department of Corrections as a supervisor of an inmate work crew. He was a member of the Wetumpka Volunteer Fire Department, a 33rd degree Mason and a longtime member of the Tallahassee Shrine Bandits.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin Jones, Roland Jones, Winston Dunson and Robert Myron Dunson; and a son, James "Jimmy" Dunson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Caroline Casey Dunson; daughters, Cheryl McClure (John McClure) and Yvonne Peters (CMSgt Scott Peters, RET); sister, Mary Cox and brother, George Dunson.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Jim's honor directly to the Georgia Patriot Guard and/or the Florida Patriot Guard who are honoring him with a full escort from Georgia to Florida.
