Florence Deanna Barber's Obituary
Florence “Deanna” Barber passed away on Wednesday March 8th , 2023. The Lord welcomed her home at 8:30 that evening.
Deanna was born on November 18th, 1939 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the first of ten children born to Edward Thomas Butt and Jennie Mae Crocker Butt. She was known by many names such as Deanna; Miss Dee; Aunt Nana; Nana and of course, Mom throughout her life. In 1960 she wed Winfred Denonie “Buddy” Barber, a USAF Airman, and settled in Tallahassee in 1961 after her husband was honorably discharged. They had three children, Deborah Anne (1960), Cynthia Joy (1961), and Edward Clyde (1969). They were married for 17 years.
She is survived by her son, Edward “Buddy” Barber and his wife Rebecca; her grandchildren, Sarah Paulson, Deanna Paulson, and Mary Paulson. She was blessed with three step-grandchildren in 2014, Nathaniel “Nate” Cassidy, Shiloh Cassidy, and Deborah Cassidy Howell. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren, David Andrew Paulson (son of Deanna Paulson), and Charles Edward Howell IV (son of Deborah and Charles Howell III).
Her extensive family including her brothers and sisters (in order) are Jane, Bill, Mary,
Daphne, David, Paul, Harry, Steve, and Joy. They all were told of her passing and were saddened yet relieved she was no longer suffering. All of her siblings have spouses and children, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. All live throughout Canada and deeply loved their Aunt Deanna. Over her 62 years in the U.S. she would visit them many times, especially after she retired in 2005. She instilled a great love of family into her children, as well as a great love for her Newfoundland home. This love is carried on.
She follows into heaven her daughters Debbie (1982) and Cindy (2022), son-in-law, Mike (2018),
and many others who’ve gone before to prepare her path. We are all certain she was
welcomed with open arms.
A service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at Tallahassee Heights Church, 3004 Mahan Dr., Tallahassee, Florida. She will be interred at Roselawn Cemetery.
