Derek Street's Obituary
Derek Emory Street, beloved son and brother, passed away at age 22. Derek was a remarkable person – artistic, musical, athletic, brilliant in academics, and a skilled cook. Everything Derek was interested in, he quickly learned to do very well. He was observant, witty, and sophisticated beyond his years. Derek was a pleasure to raise as a child, excelled in school, and had many friends. Unfortunately, Derek had a disease that emerged in his late teen years that neither he nor his family could overcome. Alcoholism and substance abuse took Derek and took him away from his loving family. To any family dealing with addiction, our compassion and sympathy go out to you.
Derek is survived by his parents, Philip Emory Street and Mary Ruth Street, his sister Allison Street (Austin Londono), his aunt Jane Essig (Bob Jackson), his uncle Wesley Hagler (Kim Shugar), cousins Kendra Essig (Isaac “Kal” Morales) and Peyton, Cason, and Hannah Hagler, his step-grandmother, Gaynel Hagler, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his cousin Cody Essig, and his aunt Janet Street, as well as several close friends.
A memorial in Derek’s honor will be held October 18 from 2-4PM at Unity-Eastside Church, 8551 Buck Lake Road, Tallahassee. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Derek’s name to Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida or a charity of your choice.
