Yvonne Bland 's Obituary
Yvonne Louise Elizabeth Bland, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, with her family by her side at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee. She was born on August 2, 1938 in Brawley, California to Floyd and Essie (Willis) Wilson who preceded her in death. She was the oldest of 4 children, Marie Lyons, Florita Clovis Wilson and Beatrice Wilson. She was a 1957 graduate of San Bernardino High School. She then married Louis E. Bland, Sr. in May 1960 and out of that marriage they had two children, Monica and Louis Jr. They were married for 13 years.
Yvonne enjoyed working as a Phlebotomist and Respitory Technician for several years. In the early 90’s, she worked as an after school teacher assistant at Ivey Elementary School in Orlando, Florida where she planned after school activities for the children. She later worked at Wal-Mart in Tallahassee as a greeter where she enjoyed serving and helping others. She had an uncanny ability to reach people in a positive way and had a wonderful way with words. She also had a wry sense of humor.
Yvonne enjoyed sewing, crocheting, word puzzle games, gardening, all kinds of music, singing and loved to read. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her amazing yeast rolls. Yvonne was beautiful inside and out! In her early days, she was also known as Miss America.
Yvonne cherished being a grandmother and enjoyed the loving companionship of her fury dog lady. She was preceded in death by her son Louis, Jr., his father Louis Sr., and her sister Florita Clovis Wilson. Left to cherish her memories are daughter, Monica Thomas, son in law, Edward Thomas, grandsons, Jamin and Marcus Thomas, sisters Marie Lyons and Beatrice Wilson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Yvonne will be forever loved and missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 6:00 p.m. at Fire & Hammer Ministries Inc., 1519 Capital Circle N.E., Ste. 13 Tallahassee, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee.
