Steven L. Buckhalter's Obituary
Steve Buckhalter, age 66, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026 at his home in Tallahassee, Florida.
He was born in Perry, Florida to parents Herman Buckhalter and Wilma Burke. He was a 1977 graduate of Taylor County High School and a 1983 graduate of Florida State University, where he was a lifelong fan, football booster and ultimate tailgater. Upon graduation, he began working at what was once known as the Olin Corporation, now known as St. Marks Powder, a General Dynamics Company, where he worked for 42 years and still worked as a senior ballistics engineer.
Steve was the consummate outdoorsman. He enjoyed boating, fishing, scalloping, hunting, spearfishing, camping, using his green thumb and simply being outdoors. There was nothing he couldn’t do or fix.
Steve was immensely proud of his family, especially his wife, Ann, the love of his life, with whom he shared 46 years and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2025, and their two exceptional children Georgia and Matt.
Steve will be remembered as a good man — a steady and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, smart, wise, honest, funny, gracious, kind and capable. He was a gift to this world.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ann Carmichael Buckhalter; children Georgia Thompson (Craig Thompson) and Matthew Buckhalter (Tara Buckhalter); grandchildren Price, Wyndham, Reid and Elliot.
A service honoring Steve will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Marks Powder Campground on the Wakulla River (located near TnT Hide-A-Way, 6527 Coastal Hwy Crawfordville, FL 32327).
In lieu of flowers, Steve may be remembered by contributions to St. James Episcopal Church in Perry, FL (http://www.stjamesperry.org/) or the United Way of the Big Bend (https://uwbb.org/).
