Steve Wright's Obituary
Steven Douglas Wright, 70, of Havana, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, from various health issues, however, he had a fighting spirit and good sense of humor to the end.
Steve was born in Washington, DC to Donald Ernest Wright and Irmalee Lucille Davisson Wright on May 10, 1952. He grew up in Salisbury, MD graduating from Wicomico Senior High School in 1970. He served as a Quartermaster in the U.S. Coast Guard at the USCG base in Miami Beach, FL from 1972 to 1976, running search-and-rescue boats and piloting the USCG Cutter 'Dauntless'. Steve also served many years in the USCG Reserves. He received an AA degree from Tallahassee Community College in 1978 and a Cabinetmaker Certificate from Lively Vocational School in 1980. He worked at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in computer support and for many years building, finishing and installing beautiful custom cabinetry with Corry Cabinet Co. in Havana Fl.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Don Wright and mother, Lucille Wright; and sister, Donna Jean Wright-Schwarz-Loveless. Steve is survived by his children, Jennifer Elizabeth Wright of Panama City FL and Nathan Christopher Wright, U.S. Army helicopter pilot in Hawaii (Dominique) and two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother, Leslie Ronald Wright of Brooksville, FL and sister, Beverly Fay Wright of Salisbury, MD and several nieces and nephews, and many other friends, including his ex-wife Gail Wright Zajicek and her husband, Paul “That Guy” Zajicek.
Steve will be remembered for his selfless care for others and his family, for having a good time, his love of the beach and his amazing cooking. Steve loved to canoe, kayak, scuba dive and go sailing. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family and talking and telling stories, spending time with his beloved pets, building, painting and fixing homes and sheds, and watching wildlife (deer, fox, birds, and gopher tortoises) from his front and back porch.
A service with military honors will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, Fl 32311 on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 10:00 am.
