Sheila Whaley 's Obituary
Sheila Peitra Whaley passed away Friday February 22, 2019 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Kyle Whaley, her son, Gavino Schmerber and her daughter, Brooklyn Whaley. She was also a loving step-mother to Chelsea Missick and Steven Whaley. She has two brothers, Shane Spears and Dustin Spears and Dustin's son, Ethan Spears. In the last 2 years Sheila lost both her parents, John Spears and Angela Spears. Sheila was looking forward to being a mother-in-law to Paige Atkinson.
She was born in Arcadia, Florida which is where she met her future husband, Kyle Whaley, while both worked at the Arcadia Police Department.
Sheila and Kyle were married in a beautiful ceremony in Tallahassee on March 19, 2011, 18 years, to the day, from their first date.
Sheila had a tremendous passion for singing all types of music and painting, among others.
She began working at The Florida Bar 3 years ago and put the same passion into her work as she did when she was in law enforcement.
Her friend and boss, Diana Kellogg, praised her work on several occasions. She was a certification specialist earning respect and praise from her peers.
Her passion flowed in her personal life as well.
Kyle tells a story about Sheila coming home from the store and asking if he had any shoes, socks or backpacks he wanted to get rid of. When he asked why, she said she had met a homeless man in a wheelchair and she asked him if there was anything she could do for him. She made a list and came home to fill it. There are so many stories about her giving nature and the genuine love she felt for her fellow man.
Sheila was a friend to everyone she met. If anyone ever came to Sheila with a personal problem, you better believe she would stop everything and pray with them and do what she could to help.
She recently met a family who had been evicted from their home. Kyle and Sheila talked about ways to help. Sheila started Project Home Steady and it was her focus until she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For those of us left behind, we can take comfort in knowing she is in Heaven with her father and mother.
She will be deeply missed by everyone she came in contact with.
A Memorial Service for Sheila Whaley will be held on Friday March 1, 2019 at Genesis Church 4070 Mission Rd., Tallahassee, Fl. at 2:00 pm
Immediate family will hold a private burial service at a later date.
