Richard Darrah Meador's Obituary
Richard Darrah "Rick" Meador, 71, of Tallahassee, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Meador.
Other survivors include his two children, Jessica Cabrera (Manny) of Valrico, FL and Sam Meador of Tallahassee; one sister, Ama Cadle of High Point, NC; one brother, David Meador of Tallahassee; brother-in-law, Randy Asbury of Jacksonville, FL; father and mother-in-law, Ervin and Verna Asbury of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Jonas Cabrera, Manny Cabrera IV, and Gabriel Cabrera; and several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by one brother, Kenny Meador and his beloved cat, Toodles.
Rick was born and raised in Beckley, WV and had lived in Tallahassee since 1996. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, the West Virginia Institute of Technology and later received his MBA from Tampa University. He attended Capital City Christian Church in Tallahassee until his health wouldn't allow him.
Rick enjoyed a successful career working as an electrical engineer. During his employment with Dearing Brothers Electrical Engineering he designed a piece of equipment that would dig an 18" seam of coal which he later sold to the Chinese government. And for the first time in his life he flew on a plane to educate the Chinese on how to operate it. He also worked for Square D and Allen Bradley in Tallahassee and retired as an electrical engineer after a short stint as a Registered Nurse.
Rick loved to read spy novels, murder mysteries and textbooks. He loved to remodel and was always working on a project. He also enjoyed watching college football, vacationing to Disney World and memorized every episode of NCIS.
