Phyllis Rich Blackman's Obituary
Phyllis Celeste Rich Blackman, 70 years old, of Quincy, Florida, told cancer to kiss her grits on Monday, September 14th surrounded by family at her residence.
Phyllis was a proud Air Force Brat, born in El Paso, Texas on July 5th 1950. Her parents settled in Albany, GA in 1964 where she attended Albany High School and graduated in 1968. Her beloved Daddy promptly gave her a car and the payment book and she went to work in the Auto Parts Industry. She worked for many years at Keenan Auto Parts and The Parts House in Albany until moving to Tallahassee, Florida in 1987 where she continued her career in the Auto Parts Industry.
She graduated from Lively Technical College in 2010 with her Medical Assistant Certification and proudly worked in the medical field in the Tallahassee area until her retirement. After retirement she spent time living in Port St. Lucie, FL, Albany, GA, and Vero Beach, FL before returning to Quincy, FL for the final show!
Some of her fondest memories were from her time in Vero Beach, sipping Rum Runners at The Jetty Lounge, dancing with friends at the Catelli Cigar Lounge, and enjoying karaoke at The Tiki Bar with all of her many friends and family! She loved passionately and was loved by everyone that encountered her. One of her greatest passions was College Football, always cheering for her Georgia Bulldogs and Florida State Seminoles. She was adored by her precious fur babies, Ringo and Cleo, who were her loyal companions until she got her hall pass to Heaven.
She was greeted at the Pearly Gates by her parents Ernest & Mable Rich, sisters Reba Mathis & Pam Green, and her precious grandson Andrew Casey.
She is survived by her former husband and dedicated caregiver Bill Blackman of Quincy FL; Sister's-In-Love, Barbara (Lee) Walding and Sharon Blackman; Bonus Children, Billy Blackman, Christy (Steve) Casey and Penny Hardy; Nieces, Kellie (Casey) Chapman, Skye Gardner, Cindy Brooks and Lynnette Moreno; 3 Bonus Grandkids, great-grands and a host of remaining family members who will miss her until we meet again!
Phyllis was a friend to everyone, and stronger than most, who fought with fierceness until she drew her last breath. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but on a breezy fall afternoon when the game is on, if we sit real still and listen carefully, we may just hear her whisper, “Go Noles! SIC EM DAWGS!”.
Her soul has left the earth, and her remains will be returned to the earth at her beloved Vero Beach at a later date. Her family would like to thank Big Bend Hospice for the wonderful care and support that was provided during her final months. LifeSong Funerals and Cremations, in Quincy, FL, is in charge of the arrangements.
