Patricia Patel's Obituary
Patricia Patel passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday July 23, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Tallahassee, Florida. A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, Pat lived a wonderful life filled with adventure and travel. She grew up in San Anselmo, California, moved to New York City in the early 1960’s, married her husband Mahendra (Mac) Patel in India, then lived for decades in New Jersey, first in West Milford and later in Livingston.
She had a life filled with many rich and incredible personal experiences. But it was the love and devotion to her family and friends that was most important to her. Pat was an avid gardener, and she nourished and tended to her family relationships in much the same way she did with her gardens: with an endless capacity to support and comfort and love. She was a caregiver for every person who came into her life. Pat was the matriarch of an expansive group of family and friends; whether blood relations or not, friend or stranger, if you were within her sphere, you were under her care.
A celebration of Pat’s life will take place at her home in Livingston, NJ in the coming months. Her wish is for the people she loved to come together in an atmosphere of joy and laughter, where her family and friends can tell stories and share in her warmth once more.
Pat is survived by her husband Mac Patel, her daughters Gita Patel and Nini Olson, and son Nick Patel, her sister Elizabeth Walker, as well as her beloved grandchildren Mikayla Patel, Anderson Olson, Zoe Olson, and Tristin Steingart. Plus the many, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, and so many other family that she cherished.
