Nick Mark David Townson's Obituary
On Wednesday, December 2, 2020 Nick Townson passed away at the age of 70 in Tallahassee, Florida. To him, though, he has simply become a part of the universe once more. "We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion-year-old carbon." (Joni Mitchell)
Nick was born in Germany and spent most of his early life in Britain. His father was a military attaché to the British Embassy, which is where he began his many travels.
As an adult Nick enjoyed traveling, especially in the far and Middle East. Nick came to the United States in his twenties. Eventually, Tallahassee, Florida became Nick's home and was where he spent the last 20 years of his life.
Nick was a free spirit in his own way with a very dry wit--those who knew him well understood his humor. He loved to read and was self-taught in many subjects. His favorite reading included science, astronomy, physics, history, and the poetry of the mystics. He enjoyed talking about politics, keeping up with the news, and was a supporter of social justice causes. Nick was also an avid fan of football (soccer).
Nick loved canoeing on the Wakulla River, visiting St. George Island (a place he lived for a short while), and visiting St. Marks Wildlife Refuge.
Nick was devoted to his teacher Prem Rawat. He leaves behind old and new friends and his beloved cat, Max, a shy and retiring cream tabby.
