Elizabeth, Phoebe, and Flannery, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Ned was always so kind and welcoming to everyone. Among the many things I loved about him was his love for the three of you. He never skipped an opportunity to share news of your accomplishments and his eyes twinkled with such joy as he spoke. I will never forget the many lessons he taught me, especially those that had nothing to do with writing--kindness, how to be generous and supportive of others' dreams, how to love fiercely and proudly.
