Melvin Jones' Obituary
Prentice Melvin Jones, 81, of Quincy, FL, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, February 5, 2021. Melvin was born August 30, 1939 in Reidsville, GA and was the oldest son of Prentice and Ruby Jones. He graduated from Reidsville High School. Melvin joined the Army and was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He retired from the Florida Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Industry after 34 years. He was an active member of the Cattleman’s Association. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing, but his special joys were fellowshipping with friends and being with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest sister, Evelyn Odom, brother-in-law, Devane Mason, and his in-laws, Farris and Bernice Parramore. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Louise Parramore Jones: two daughters, Melanie Jones King and husband James of Quincy, Melinda Jones Wiggins and husband Garrett of Steamboat Springs, CO: one granddaughter Ashley King, two grandsons Cutter and Cody Wiggins, sister-in-law Peggy Parramore Mason, brothers Billy and Willie Joe Jones, sisters Joan Wellman and Janice Caines (Steve) and numerous nieces, nephews and compassionate friends.
Melvin was an active member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon. He also enjoyed the fellowship and worship at Corinth Baptist Church in Hosford.
A celebration of his life will be held on February 14th, 3 o’clock, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy. All family and friends are asked to respectfully observe COVID guidelines including face masks and social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, Quincy, Corinth Baptist Church, Hosford, or the Lighthouse Children’s Home, Tallahassee.
