Meg G. Bevis' Obituary
Mary "Meg" Green Bevis, 87, of Tallahassee, passed away gracefully at home Tuesday, January 21, 2025, with her family by her side. During her last few days, her mind was sharp and she remained optimistic and cheerful.
Meg was born in Jesup, GA. She lived in Port Arthur, TX and Palatka, FL before ultimately making Tallahassee her home.
Meg played basketball at Mississippi State College for Women. She earned a Master's in Home Economics from Florida State University and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. She was a member of St. Paul's UMC and attended St. Peter's Anglican for the last few years.
Meg was a home economics teacher at Raa Middle School, served as a Wakulla County extension agent, and worked for the Florida Department of Education. However, her true calling was simply being a wife, mother and homemaker.
Meg put the needs of others before her own. She was the primary caregiver for her mother, brother and husband before their passing. Her family is honored to have taken care of her in the same way. This was her husband's desire and they know he is pleased.
Meg loved to garden and grow flowers. As her body failed, she still enjoyed seeing the fruit of her labor in the yard. She was known for baking legendary pecan pies and tea cakes. Everyone who visited Meg's home felt welcome and cared for.
Along with Meg's daughter, Mary Beth, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Alfred "Buddy" Marion Bevis, Jr. in 2022.
Meg is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Jessi Bevis; and her granddaughters, Marion and Charlotte, to whom she was affectionately known as "Grammy."
A private family graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Big Bend Hospice. Lifesong (lifesongfunerals.com or 850-765-3190) is assisting the Bevis family with arrangements.
Rest well good and faithful servant.
