I got to know Mel when I opened my florist in Carrabelle. She would come into the store and shop for her friends. Mel was a special person and I will miss seeing her. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her family. Rest now Mel.

While I did not know Mel Kelly as the Mayor of Carrabelle, I had the honor of knowing her as
the Mayor of the East Point Writer's Group. Her strong, supportive presence was evident in each meeting she attended.
She seemed to love being part of our EP Writing Group and encouraged each of us in our particular projects. She very kindly
but firmly advised me that I did not have enough time to get my book written to make the contest deadline. She was right and I loved
her for her honesty.
When Mel was no longer able to attend our meetings, I enjoyed her emails, sharing stories, news and
encouragement to keep up the important work of writing - of being a witness to our amazing life journeys.

So thankful to have known Mel. She was the most inquisitive and generous person I’ve known. She would say it was the journalist in her, I say it was her thirst to know as much as she could. Her joy in life was her family and her ability to make a difference. She took great joy in helping ( directing lol) her friends as well as strangers. Always with kindness and the best of intentions. Truly one of I kind! I will miss you Mel, my neighbor and friend. Every time I look at the clouds you loved so, you’ll be remembered with a smile

Even though we were children of Sandy and Greg, both Mel and Tom always treated us with respect and humor, never talking down to us and always making us laugh. I still have the 1970s “pay stub” she wrote for me after I helped out in the pizzeria once. I am happy Mel and Tom are back together, but the world is a little grayer without them in it. They will be truly missed.

Mel gave me a Shamrock plant for my birthday (3/16) at a brunch Mel and her Family attended. It was a tiny thing but is thriving as Mel does in our hearts. Terri still says I was her secret boyfriend! 🤣
