Martha Foster Creel's Obituary
Martha Foster Creel of Monticello passed away Monday March 16, 2026, at home under Big Bend Hospice care. She was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on September 7, 1952, to Bobbie Foster and Vlasta Kouba Foster who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Andrew Creel; children, Nathan Creel (Denise) of Flovilla, Ga., Sarah Grischy (Dan) of Tallahassee and Caitlin Lindsey (Rob) of Hendersonville, N.C.; grandchildren, Jamari Peters (Lauren Pitts) of Barnesville, Ga., Margaret Grischy and Pierce Grischy of Tallahassee and Penelope Lindsey of Hendersonville, N.C. She is also survived by her brothers, Cory Foster (Gretchen) of Scottsbluff, NE, Preston Foster (Leesa) of Metropolis, Il. and several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends who helped provide meals and their presence during Martha’s fight with Atypical Parkinsonism, PSP.
She was the kindest person you would ever know and was always willing to bake a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies to lift spirits. Smart, artistically and musically gifted, she could still sing along with songs up to her very last days, a nice alto who harmonized easily.
Martha retired from the State of Florida, Department of Elder Affairs. She attained her MSW from Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville with a focus on geriatrics and elders. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Jefferson County, Florida and a previous moderator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida and the Caribbean Islands. Martha volunteered endlessly with several organizations and held positions on several boards in Jefferson County.
The family is grateful for the care provided by Big Bend Hospice and encourages, in lieu of flowers, that people donate to Big Bend Hospice in memory of Martha.
Plans for a celebration of life service are yet to be completed.
