Marie Lindsey Daughtry's Obituary
Marie E. Daughtry, 86, of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, after a brief illness. A native of Moultrie, Georgia, she was born on January 20, 1940, to the late George M. Lindsey, Sr. and Clarice Weldon Lindsey.
A 1958 graduate of Moultrie High School, Marie began her career at Butler’s Shoe Store in Moultrie. While picking up lunch for herself and her mother at Chandler’s Drive-In, she met a young Air Force veteran named Lark Daughtry. That chance meeting began a love story that would span nearly sixty years, ending only with Lark’s death in December 2025.
Marie was first and foremost a homemaker, devoting herself to raising her two sons. After Andy and Tim began school, she joined Lark at Refrigerated Transport Company, where they worked side by side for many years. In 1977 the family relocated to Madison, Florida where Lark and Marie opened an RTC terminal. A move to Tallahassee followed in the early 1990s, where she was resident manager for Planters Crossing Apartments.
Known as “Granny” or “ReeRee” to her family, Marie’s love language was service. She never met a stranger. Whether she was at a favorite restaurant, the grocery store, or a clothing store, she knew people by name, asked about their families, and genuinely cared about their lives.
She had a great wit, a quick smile, and a way of making people feel like family.
She was always impeccably dressed and put together. Family members often joked that her beautician was more important to her than her doctor! Her longtime home at St. Ives was beautifully kept, reflecting the same immaculate care she gave to everything in her life. She was, quite simply, one of a kind.
Marie was a faithful member of Bradfordville First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the Senior Adult Choir until declining health no longer permitted.
Marie is survived by her two sons, Andy Daughtry (Laura) of Quitman, Georgia, and Tim Daughtry (Kevin Clark) of Tallahassee, Florida; her grandchildren, Clay Daughtry (Emily), Adam Daughtry (Claudia), Josh Daughtry (Anna Leigh), and Caroline Rollins (Brandt); her great-granddaughter, Denver Grace Daughtry; and her soon-to-be-born great-granddaughter, Bayleigh Michelle Daughtry, expected next month. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Lindsey of Manchester, Connecticut; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marie was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: her brothers, George M. Lindsey, Jr. (Essie) and Charles E. Lindsey; her sisters, Nadine Sager (Skip), Christine Gibbons (Bruce), and Carolyn Raum (George).
