Margo Kay Gilbert's Obituary
Margo Kay Gilbert of Tallahassee died Thursday, July 21, 2022 of a brain tumor at the age of 62. Margo was born in Tallahassee on December 23, 1959 to Addison Starr Gilbert and Mildred Stephenfield. She attended local schools and graduated from FSU. One of her great loves was as a performer in the FSU Flying Circus. Her dad was one of the early founders of the Circus in the 1960s and Margo grew up with Circus in her blood.
Margo worked 28 years at 211 Bend Bend as a hotline counselor and resource supervisor. She was a foundational team member in establishIng relationships with Big Bend community partners.
Margo chose a courageous life of recovery from addiction and mental health issues. Her love of horses and riding was an important part of her self care and contributed to her successful recovery from addiction and mental health challenges.
Margo had many friends and was a great storyteller. We will miss her wry sense of humor and outspoken truthfulness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ad and Mildred, her step-father, Dan Stephenfield, and her niece, Jenny Bleichner.
She is survived by her brother, Robert and a nephew, Robert II (Kallie) and 4 great nephews; her niece, Ashley Gilbert (Aldrin Lopez) who provided loving care and support during the last 3 months of her life. She is also survived by her step-sister, Sally Bleichner and her sons, Ryan and Eric; and her beloved cat, Lucy.
