Mrs. Loretta Carol Gunn Mitchell's Obituary
Mrs. Loretta Carol Gunn Mitchell 69, died Sunday September 18, 2016 at the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Healthcare Center in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born on March 9, 1947 in Alamance County, North Carolina. Loretta C. Mitchell was the daughter of Mr. Samuel and Bertha Mattie Clanton Gunn. Loretta and her three siblings attended school in Alamance County, where she went on to graduate from Central High School in 1965. Loretta worked for the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH) Hospital for 23 years. Loretta loved her work as a Medical Records Clerk and increased her skills by attending a variety of work related College courses. She loved the people who worked with her and those she had the opportunity to assist daily. Loretta had the gift of making friends instantly and made everyone she met feel wanted and special. She also had a love for sewing which prompted her to create handmade dolls, blankets and designer clothes that can be found throughout the United States and overseas. Loretta opened a “Softsyte Cushions” business in 2013 from her home in Tallahassee. She was very creative, talented and always put others before herself.
Loretta is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 48 years, Mr. Edward Harris Mitchell. Daughter, Terry Mitchell Matthews (Douglas) of North Carolina. Son, Edward H. “Eddie” Mitchell of Florida. Granddaughters, Courtney Tiria Mitchell and Lyric Simone Matthews. Also her brothers Mr. Samuel “Jack” Gunn (Josephine) of North Carolina and Mr. Stanley Gray Gunn (Olivia) of North Carolina, her Sister, Mrs. Emma Fay Owens (Joseph) of, North Carolina. Host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends in Florida and North Carolina. She is preceded in death by mother Mrs. Bertha Mattie Clanton Gunn and father Mr. Samuel Gunn.
