Ms. Loralea Carlsen's Obituary
Loralea Schmidt Carlsen, 64, of Leesburg, GA passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 5, 2024, in Tallahassee, FL after a brief illness.
She was born in Roswell, New Mexico on November 18, 1959, to her parents Terry Paul Schmidt Senior and Carolea Greenleaf Schmidt. She grew up in Tallahassee and attended Leon High School, Darton College and Valdosta State Universities. She was an employee of Webstaurant Store.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Terry and Carolea and her husband, Bill Carlsen. She is survived by her siblings Brittany Harris and Terry Schmidt Jr. (Stacey) of Tallahassee; her three sons Eric (Miranda) Carlsen, Brent (Erika) Carlsen, and Quaid Hormell of Leesburg; and her five grandchildren Rylea, Lynnlea, Hadley, Teegan, and William.
The world has been forever changed by the loss of our beloved Loralea, or Granny, as she was called by her grandchildren. No matter what life threw at her loved ones, we knew she was going to serve us a comforting meal, while already planning the next. She loved playing games with her family and particularly enjoyed Rummikub. She loved reading, traveling, and Michelob Ultra. She loved cooking, especially with and for her family and creating crafts for all seasons. She also enjoyed working in her yard and planting and tending to her hydrangeas and her mother’s giant Christmas Cactus. Through her work, she was a supporter of the CASA program and Feeding the Valley, helping to raise funds and provide support to their volunteers.
One of Loralea’s favorite meals was “Snack Dinner.” In lieu of services, family and friends are invited to bring their favorite dip or snack dish to a gathering in Loralea’s honor at the home of Brent and Erika Carlsen, 5105 Old Dawson Road, Albany, GA Saturday, August 17 from 2-5 p.m.
