Dr. Linda Minnock Schwarz's Obituary
Linda Minnock, also known as Linda Schwarz, died April 4, 2024 at age 69.
Linda was born January 27, 1955 to Mary and Edward Minnock in Camp
Kilmer, New Jersey. As an Army brat, Linda moved frequently and had fond
childhood memories from many places, but she always thought of Du Bois,
Pennsylvania and Onset, Massachusetts as her childhood homes.
Linda loved learning and was the first in her family to attend college directly after high
school. She enrolled at the University of South Florida (USF) and graduated
from USF College of Medicine shortly after her 24th birthday. She also
earned an MPH from USF. When Linda finished her training she practiced
medicine with Tom Hicks in Havana, Florida. Linda also practiced medicine
at Capital Health Plan, the Florida State University Student Health Center,
the Veterans’ Administration, and the Florida State University College of
Medicine. She also volunteered with Neighborhood Health Services, The
Cold Night Shelter, Open Door Clinic and FSU College of Medicine in
Immokalee, Florida.
Linda met Peter Schwarz in calculus class 2 weeks after starting at USF. They
quickly became constant companions and remained so for 51 years. Linda
and Peter married in 1977 and had almost 47 years of wonderful marriage
which included three children, Laura Schwarz (Sarah Comer), Kathleen
Schwarz (Kiel Albrecht) and Michael Schwarz (Darcy Watson) and 4
grandchildren, Liliana, Oliver, Benjamin and Daniel. In addition to her
children and grandchildren, Linda is survived by her sisters, Patricia Mills
(Brad) and Judy Todd as well as by Peter’s family and many nieces and
nephews. Linda was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Edward, Jr.
and her sister Sharon Minnock.
Linda was a dedicated mother who loved baking, running, hiking in
mountains, kayaking the Wacissa River, and most importantly enjoying life
with her family. She also cherished the friends and neighbors who enriched
her and Peter’s lives for so many years.
A Mass will be said for Linda at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 5:00
PM on June 8th, followed by a brief celebration in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fistula Foundation (fistulafoundation.org/donate) Damien House
(www.thedamienhouse.org/howtohelp.html) or Redlands Christian Migrant Association (www.rcma.org).
