Laurieuse "Laurie" Bien-Aime's Obituary
Marie Laurieuse (Laurie) Bien-Aime 81, of Port-Au-Prince Haiti passed on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Lovingly known as Lolo, Manmie Lolo or Ms Laurie. She was born on September 18, 1938 in Jeremie, Haiti to father Jean Esprisaint Bien-Aime and mother Hermance Casimir. A little known fact is that her birth certificate was change to the year 1941 because it was determined that she was pass the age to enter the equivalent of middle school. She was Miss Port-Au-Prince in her teens.
She later ventured out and traveled to France and became a governess. After a few years, she moved to Brooklyn, New York and trained in the Nursing field as a Nursing Assistant, caring for the elderly for almost 20 years. Her true passion though, was baking and cooking. She attended the Wilton Academy of Cake Decorating in Chicago, Illinois back in the 70's where she learned to craft beautiful cakes for birthdays and weddings. When she moved to Port Charlotte, Florida, she became an entrepreneur starting her own catering business called “Laurie’s Dream”. She also went to culinary arts school to become a professional chef. In her retirement she traveled often to Haiti enjoying the island and church, Eglise Sacre-Coeur Turgeau, that she loved.
She is survived by her daughter Danielle Daguerre, goddaughter Gerda Paulissaint and many family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Big Bend Hospice and the St. Eugene Catholic Mission and Student Center family.
A memorial service will be held on her birthday Friday, September 18, 2020, at 5:00 pm at St. Eugene Catholic Mission and Student Center. Due to limited seating, the service will be streamed live on YouTube and Facebook. Simply search: St. Eugene Catholic Mission and Student Center.
