Katharine Marie (Baretich) Powell's Obituary
Katharine Powell, also known as Kathy, passed away at her home in Quincy, Florida, on December 30, 2023, at the age of 67. Born on May 16, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, Kathy was a beloved mother, sister, daughter, and friend. Kathy will be deeply missed by her daughters, Becki Powell and Sarah McDonald (Christopher); her son, Justin Powell; her sisters, Vicki Bell (Davis) and Theresa Strobel (John); her mother, Theresa Baretich; her nephews, nieces, and extended family; and her many, many friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben, and her father, Albert.
Kathy had a vibrant personality and was known for her incredible sense of humor. She loved a good party, and her smile could light up any room. She was one of the funniest people you would ever meet. Kathy loved nothing more than spending time at St. George Island, where she found solace and joy. She was a master of any crossword, word jumble, or other puzzle put in front of her. Doak Campbell Stadium will never be as loud without her voice cheering on the Seminoles.
For those who knew Kathy and would like to pay their respects, a graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 4th, at 3:00pm at Old Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Quincy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Thornwell, an organization close to Kathy’s heart, which serves to prevent child abuse and neglect, to build up and reunite families, and to support healthy communities in the name of Jesus Christ. Donations in her memory can be made at https://thornwell.org/give/.
Kathy will be remembered for her laughter and her warm heart. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
