Jonas "Courtney" Hartsfield III's Obituary
Jonas “Courtney” Hartsfield III, 74, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024. Courtney is preceded in death by his loving parents Jonas Courtney “Red” Hartsfield, Jr., and Sarah Scott Hartsfield. He is survived by his brother Brandon S. Hartsfield, his sister Sarah “Diane” Hartsfield, and brother Richard C. Hartsfield (Sandy) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Courtney lived an extraordinary life despite challenging disabilities including not being able to read, write, or drive a car. Courtney accomplished much including owning his own home and operating a small business for 20+ years. Courtney’s main desire in life was to live independently, and he did this because of the love and support of his dad, mom, sister and two brothers. The family recognizes the City of Tallahassee and Leon County Adopt A Road Programs and The Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority for their association with Courtney’s work. For decades family and friends could see Courtney walking and working all around town. He loved family time, fishing, horses (especially Gus), the beach and pets. When asked how are you doing Courtney, he would respond, ”I am doing great.”
His family appreciates the loving support Courtney received over his entire life beginning with Shands Hospitals in Gainesville and Marianna, LARC, the Georgia House, Janice Phillips, Suzi Kemp, and all the others who lovingly assisted in Courtney’s life. In the last years of his life, Courtney was lovingly cared for at The Tallahassee Developmental Center, especially by Shirley Edwards and many others.
Most significantly, Courtney’s life was a living testimony to the love and care of his loving Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and this was seen by his family and friends throughout his life.
A celebration of Mr. Hartsfield's life will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2 P.M.(EST) at Lifesong Funeral Home, 20 S. Duval Street, Quincy, Florida. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would like to thank you for supporting Courtney throughout his life.
