Joanne Tate 's Obituary
Joanne Tate, 66, of Tallahassee, died peacefully at her home on Friday, July 31, 2015.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Arthur P. and Marion L. Tate and raised in Garden City, NY. She moved to Florida in 1982 to be closer to family who moved to Florida a few years earlier. She resided in Sarasota for many years, working for Arthur Andersen and later for the Florida Department of Revenue. She moved to Tallahassee in 2008 to take a new position with the Florida Dept. of Revenue as a software tester.
Joanne had a love of reading from a young age and enjoyed it throughout her life. She loved to travel earlier in life and was always curious about other places; places she hoped to visit one day. She became the family historian, researching her ancestors and keeping track of her many cousins.
Joanne became interested in politics while in high school in the 1960’s. She attended George Washington University for 2 years and later finished her political science degree at Hofstra University. She later earned a Master’s in Public Administration at USF.
She leaves behind her sister, Susan Tate (Mark Hogan) of Sarasota and Nantucket, MA; a brother, Robert Tate (Karen) of West Chester, OH; her mother, Marion Tate of Sarasota; nieces and nephews, Adam Pingley; Rebecca Clark; and Katherine Tate all of Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her father, Arthur Tate.
Joanne will be laid to rest in her family’s plot in Brooklyn, NY. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Lifesong (www.lifesongfunerals.com or 850/627.1111) is assisting the family with arrangements.
