Jean Tamanian's Obituary
Jean Tamanian, 86, of Havana, FL, went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barsam Tamanian.
Jean grew up in Kenmore, NY, outside Buffalo. She attended Russell Sage College in Troy, NY where she met her husband. Barsam and Jean married and moved to Schenectady, NY where Barsam worked as a chemist with General Electric. In 1965, Barsam was transferred to Clearwater and he and Jean moved with their two children, Paul and Barbara, to Clearwater. Jean relocated to Havana in 2015 to live with her daughter.
As a founding member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Largo, FL, Jean directed the church choir while also working at the reference desk for Largo library. After retirement, she logged more than 2,000 hours as a library volunteer.
In addition to her books and music, Jean enjoyed brisk walks with friends and playing golf. She loved to test her mind with crossword puzzles and word games like Yahtzee. She also spent many hours watching professional golf on television as well as her beloved Tampa Bay Rays and FSU football and basketball teams.
Survivors include her two children, Paul Tamanian of Tallahassee; and Barbara Sherman of Havana; grandson, Kyle Sherman; brothers, Duncan Tutton of Orchard Pond, NY; and Dr. Joseph Tutton of Shell Point, FL.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30pm on May 14th at the Lifesong chapel, 20 South Duval St., Quincy, FL.
