Jean Elsie Pike's Obituary
Jean Elsie (Blewett) Pike, 91, of Tallahassee, was born October 11, 1933, and passed away April 6, 2025.
Jean was a follower of Christ and is saved by His Grace. She loved all people, animals and all of God’s creations.
Jean was born in Tottenham, London, England and was living there as a six-year-old lass when the “Blitz” occurred. She and her older brother Ron were evacuated with the other children of London to Wales where she developed a love for the sea.
As a teen, Jean and two friends emigrated from England to Detroit, USA (Jean) and Toronto, Canada (Pauline & Barb). She soon met a dashing young Man named Bob Pike. They were married in 1957 and later that year Jean gave birth to a daughter. They moved into their new home and in 1960 a son was born into the family.
Jean invested her time raising her family as Bob earned a living but also was able to save money for trips home to visit Jean’s relatives. They eventually purchased a home in Devon, England for future trips. Other vacations for the family included visiting Pauline & Barb in Toronto regularly and trips around the USA and Europe, all meticulously planned by Jean to consume as much local culture as possible. Jean loved meeting new people and cultures.
After her children were raised and on their own, Jean and Bob had a friendly parting and Jean returned to mother England. She lived there enjoying trips to “sister cities” in Germany to help heal the wounds of war and also hosted European transfer students in her home for years. When Grandchildren were born it drew Jean back to Florida. She had a nice condo near the beach and visited it often for sunrises and sunsets. She loved the sights and sounds of the beach and the lure of the sea. She enjoyed visits from her 3 granddaughters and eventually her 3 great grandsons.
After hurricanes devastated her condo, Jean moved closer to her children. She continued to travel abroad and in the US with friends and family soaking in the culture of the US Southwest and the beauty of the Canadian Rockies. As Jean aged she sought the safety of her children and moved in with her son and daughter-in-law while also enjoying extended stays with her daughter and family. She spent most of her later years gardening and researching her extensive family genealogy tracing both her family and her husband’s family back to the 700’s and the common Viking heritage, uncovering queens, castles and other royal trappings in the search of her lineage. It was a 20+ year passion for her culminating in over fifty 3-ring binders of family tree “rabbit holes”.
Jean passed peacefully into eternal life with her creator and savior of natural causes after a several year decline into dementia. She leaves behind her two thankful children and their spouses, three beautiful granddaughters and three handsome great grandsons.
Jean perpetuated her innate peace-loving spirit and kept her subtle and light sense of “English” humor even into her advanced years. She always made everyone smile in her quiet but loving presence. She was known to many as “the Queen” but to family she was just “Mum”.
