Jean Jernigan Gwinn 's Obituary
Jean Jernigan Gwinn passed away on March 4, 2020 at the age of 101. Born in Quincy, Florida in 1918, Jean lived to see herself become a great-great-grandmother. A graduate of Florida State University, Jean dedicated most of her professional life to teaching. She met and married Mack W. Gwinn at the onset of World War II. They were together for the next 57 years until his passing in 1999. Both Jean and Mack were committed to serving our country and after the end of the war remained in the service living in Germany, Maine, Alaska, and Georgia before returning to the sunshine state. They had two sons, Mack Jr. and Richard, who both followed their commitment to service. Richard died in the line of duty in Vietnam in 1969. Known by all four generations of Gwinns as “Grammie Gwinn,” the family fondly remembers Jean for many inspirational qualities, most notably her Southern charm, fortitude, adventurous spirit, love of poodles, the color blue, and a good rum and coke! She is survived by her son Mack Jr. and his wife Chris of Holden, Maine, and daughter-in-law Shela Hobson Gwinn Landers of Cartersville, Georgia; her grandchildren Jenny, Mack, III, Rick, Ryan, and Kristen; her great-grandchildren Crystal, Andrea, David, Carolyn, Cameron, and Mathias; and her great-great-granddaughter Abby. She will be missed by all.
