Mr. James Raylon Magee's Obituary
James Raylon Magee, 84, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away after a long illness on March 28, 2024. He was born on August 4, 1939, in El Dorado, Arkansas.
James, a loyal, hard-working, and strong individual, dedicated his life to his family and country. Growing up in Ruston, Louisiana, he attended Ruston High School and went on to serve in the United States ARMY from 1960 to 1965, where his wit and ingenious nature shone through.
After his military service, James earned a degree in Business from Louisiana Tech University and pursued a successful career. He worked as an Operations Manager at Genuine Parts Company in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Denver, Colorado, from 1965 to 1980. Subsequently, he became the Owner and President of Evergreen Auto Parts in Evergreen, Colorado, from 1980 to 1998, and was a familiar face and friend to many. After retiring, he moved to Tallahassee, Florida to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren. When he wasn't busy teaching the grandkids to fish in the swimming pool or to become experts at hide-and-seek, he served as a Lobbyist Driver during the Florida State Legislative Sessions.
Outside of work, James was a dedicated member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Evergreen, Colorado. He also volunteered as a Veteran transportation driver for the VA in Florida, showcasing his commitment to serving others.
James is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Bethe (Andrews) Magee, his daughters Kelly Hiltz and Wendy Bureau (Phillip), grandchildren Cameron and Jordan Hiltz, Carter and Bailey Bureau, as well as great-granddaughter Elizabeth (Ellie) Holloway. He is also survived by his sister Julia Ann (Magee) Hood.
James was preceded in death by his father Willis Dorman Magee, Sr., mother Eulaee (Kelly) Magee, and brother Willis Dorman "W.D." Magee, Jr.
A family ceremony for the internment of his ashes will be held at a later date at Tallahassee National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Elks National Foundation.
James will be remembered for his mischievous spirit, his unwavering dedication to his family, and his service to his country and community.
