James "Kyle" Maddox 's Obituary
A special soul left this world bound for heaven Monday afternoon, November 20, 2017. Kyle passed away at home surrounded by the love of his wife Sandy and his little buddy Missy, under the care of Big Bend Hospice after struggling with Alzheimer’s disease for a number of years.
Kyle was born in Andalusia, AL on January 22, 1941 to Henry Prelo and Clara Mozell Jones Maddox who preceded him in death. Mother and father-in-law, Murriel and Mac Hanes and step-son Robert Alan Guertin also preceded.
He is survived by wife Sandra Hanes Maddox, his precious Missy, step-daughter, Valerie Robinson, two sisters, Jeannette Howell (Ken) and Annette Mathews (Jerry) and a number of extended family members.
Kyle made Tallahassee his home in the early 1960’s, worked briefly for Ragan & Roberts before joining Southeastern Telephone Co. where he remained under the Centel and Sprint banners until his retirement in 1996. He served his co-workers through involvement with the local union chapter before moving into management and served a number of years in the FL National Guard Reserves. He also operated his own business, Kyle’s Korner, for several years and put together a little business known as Sports Fun Tours with his old friend Bob Walker that facilitated group trips to out of town FSU football games. Having played in high school, Kyle was an avid football fan who loved, followed and supported Seminole football for many years. An active man, he participated in many intramural sports playing softball, bowling and loved to play golf. Kyle served his community for many years through participation in the local chapter of the International Telephone Pioneer Association.
Kyle and Sandy were rarely apart. They loved, played, laughed and sometimes cried together for 32 years. He will forever be loved and missed.
Friends are invited to a memorial service in his honor on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 11:30 A.M. at Capital Heights Baptist Church, 7150 Apalachee Parkway, with Pastor Derrick Burrus officiating. Family will receive friends briefly prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kyle’s honor to Capital Heights Baptist Church or Big Bend Hospice are suggested.
