James "Jim" J. Miller's Obituary
On July 20, 2022, Jim, as he was known to family and friends, passed away peacefully after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He fought with grace, bravery, and strength; living each day filled with determination to not let it rob him of the many joys that filled his life.
Jim was born on December 13, 1936 in Lyons, Illinois to parents Johanna and Francis Miller. He grew up in a large, loving family with his parents and 5 siblings, two brothers, and three sisters.
In 1958, Jim met the true love of his life, Nancy Marie Schiefelbein. Following a 3-year courtship and brief service in the military, Jim and Nancy were married on June 17, 1961, in Lyons, IL. They moved to Stickney, IL. and had their first child, Steven James Miller. They later moved to Berwyn, IL., purchased a small grocery store, and had their two daughters; Mari Kay Miller and Trisha Marie Miller. In 1979, Jim and Nancy sold the grocery store and moved their family to Tallahassee.
Of all the joys Jim experienced in his life, the greatest was his family. He was a kind, loving, peaceful person who loved his family very much. He enjoyed sports and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Jim was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be forever cherished in our hearts. He was a ray of light and goodness in this world and he will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Nancy; son Steve Miller (Jamie); daughters Mari Kay Miller and Trisha Webb (Wayne); grandchildren Rustin Glaze, Gage Miller, Dylan Haucke; sisters Lillian Appleyard and Barbara Sanborn; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who loved him and will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by brothers Frank Miller and Ron Miller; sister Marilyn Steig; and grandson Devin James Haucke.
