James Joseph Hughes' Obituary
Joe Hughes ascended into heaven answering God's call on March 6, 2016 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Joe was born in Baltimore, MD on June 19, 1946 and moved to Sparta, North Carolina where he attended Sparta Elementary. In 1959 Joe moved with his family to Miami, FL. While attending Miami Edison High School he established life long friendships. Some of those friends accompanied him to Florida State University where Joe became a brother of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He maintained his bond with his fraternity brothers and always anxiously awaited their next visit to Tallahassee. Following Joe's graduation from FSU he went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from University of Florida; however, "He remained a Seminole."
Joe adhered to the highest standards while practicing law in Tallahassee for over 30 years. He loved his profession and his clients who spanned several generations and were considered family.
Joe was an avid golfer and especially cherished the camaraderie of his golfing buddies who he teed off with every Saturday morning. He was a voracious reader and made time to read everyday. Joe loved music and his playlist gave credit to a plethora of genres. Poetry was at the core of his soul and he always appreciated how it applied to life. Joe also had a special appreciation of art and his eye was drawn to local artists. He loved to travel, whether to the mountains skiing, the beach for relaxing or savoring time spent on Chesapeake bay.
He is survived by his Loving wife Patricia Yackanech-Hughes, his brother and sister-in-law Bob and Lucy Hughes and family of Tampa, FL whom he held close to his heart. He loved receiving a call from "Brother Bob." He is also survived by Carla Kohler (sister) and family of North Carolina; and his brothers-in-law, Ed Yackanech and family of North East, MD; Joe Yackanech and family of Elton, MD; and Fred Yackanech and family of Wilmington, DE.
He was preceded in death by his parents and also his beloved son, Garrett Hughes. We all have the peace of knowing they are together again.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Joe Hughes for family, friends and all who knew him. The Service will be at Faith Presbyterian, 2200 N. Meridian Rd., on Friday, March 11, 2016 @ 2pm.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made in Joe's honor to Second Harvest Food Bank.
