James Lee Adkins' Obituary
James “Jay” Lee Adkins passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, with family by his side after a brief battle with cancer. He was 65.
Jay was born August 9, 1957, in Warren, Ohio to Milford “Mick” Adkins and Dorothy Pauline Adkins (Ratcliff). He moved to Tallahassee, Florida in the early 80’s where he married Robin Adkins (Haggberg) and gained two sons: Donnie Newburn (Debbie) and David Newburn and then had a daughter together: Jamie Bell (Bobby). He has lived the majority of the last 40 years in Tallahassee. While Jay and Robin divorced in 2005 they remained in each other’s lives and great friends.
Jay was a hard worker and worked as a Tree Foreman at several major companies before retiring. He enjoyed the outdoors, working on cars and loved spending time with his family and friends and listening to music. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles in his younger days. He liked to travel to new places and had plans to travel with Robin once she retired in June of this year.
He is preceded in death by his father, Milford “Mick” Adkins, Grandparents: William and Nancy Adkins and James and Nettie Ratcliff.
In addition to his mother, partner in crime (or ex-wife as some might call her), and children, he leaves behind his siblings: Joseph “Joey” Ratcliff, Sr., Paulette Coriell (Dean Osmun), and William “Scott” Adkins. As well as grandchildren: Alexis (Andre), Logan (Diamond), Bayleigh, Coleman, Ashley, Alyssa, Madison, Demi, Emaleigh and Jace. Jay also leaves behind nephews, John, Lee, and J.T. and several other nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 15, 2023, at a beach house in Carrabelle at: 2872 Highway 98, East, Carrabelle, FL 32322, starting at 3:00 p.m. The family asks that everyone bring a food dish. Please contact Jamie or Robin with any questions.
