Ivette Yolanda Hernandez's Obituary
Ivette Yolanda Hernandez, aka “Cuchi", was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. As a child, she traveled as part of a military family with her father, and lived for a time in Maryland, Oklahoma, and in Germany. She returned to Puerto Rico for high school and college, graduating with a Bachelors degree in accounting. All the while, she helped take care of her disabled older brother and was unable to take part in many youthful activities or milestones. She often mentioned, with sadness in her voice, missing her high school prom.
In 1985, she moved to Tallahassee, Florida and gained employment with the Florida State Department of Revenue Services. It was here she met her husband, Luis Hernandez, who was employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. As in her military family past, she moved to Beckley, WV in 1996, to Creedmoor, NC in 2000, and returned to the Tallahassee area in 2008. She lived in Crawfordville, FL with her husband and pets until the time of her death.
Ivette’s life was complicated by Myotonia Dystrophica, first diagnosed in 1988. This resulted in progressively debilitating muscular weakness. Since 2016, she had been confined to a wheelchair, unable to walk more than a few steps, even with assistance. In spite of her hardships, she smiled and laughed and learned to take pleasure from the limited number of activities her disability allowed.
Ivette is preceded in death by her father, Maximino Casiano-Nazario and her brother, Max J. Casiano.
She is survived by her husband, Luis C. Hernandez, her mother, Haydee Rivera, her sister, Sonia Sanchez, and her brother in law, Santiago (Chago) Sanchez.
A funeral mass will be held for her on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, 2:00 pm,at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 653 Miccosukee Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32308
