Douglas Hollister Day Jr.'s Obituary
Douglas H. Day, Jr., passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023, in Tallahassee, FL.
Douglas was born in Albany, NY, on June 16, 1937, and lived the majority of his life in Hudson, NY, where he met his wife Janice Bartholomew and raised his four daughters. Doug was a machinist with Lorbrook Corporation for many years. He also held many part time jobs such as pumping gas and checking oil at service stations, setting pins at the local bowling alley, delivering for Bagel Thyme and chauffeuring the Bartholomew gals anywhere they wanted to go. Doug was also employed by Columbia Memorial Hospital and with the Hudson City School District until his retirement. He had many hobbies throughout his life including hunting, fishing, clock making and repair, and building puzzles at the local senior center and on his many vacations at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He was a life member of the NRA and enjoyed spending time at the local Rod and Gun club in his younger years. He was a life long member of Christ Church Episcopal of Hudson NY.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents Viola (Myers) and Douglas H. Day, Sr., his wife Janice, and his granddaughter Amber. He is survived by his daughters Rebecca Day, Kim (Craig) Tow, Marcia Corrado, and Carol (Scott) Travis, grandchildren Anne Marie, Christopher, Brian(Jian), Andrew(Jade), Amanda (Robert), Jason, Thomas, Cassidy, and Abigail, and great grandchildren Isiah, Jaxon, and Oliver.
The day has come that grandpa will no longer be telling jokes, asking everyone to spell ‘I Cup’, talking about Johnny and his cheese and crackers, or the one about the man crying over the grave (which frankly no one ever understood). “It’s better be be late to the golden gate than it is to get to hell on time” he would say often. He may no longer be watching the grass grow, but he is definitely happy to finally make it through the golden gates to be with the love of his life Janice!
A service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal, 431 Union St., Hudson NY on October 7, 2023 at 2pm. It was dads wish that any memorial contributions be sent to Christ Church Episcopal PO Box 411, Hudson NY 12534.
