Dana Laurence Caldwell's Obituary
Dana Laurence Caldwell, 80, of Tallahassee, passed away October 20, 2024 at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Sarro Caldwell.
Dana was born in Winchester, Massachusetts and he and his family relocated to Miami, FL when he was a young child. He grew up and spent most of his life in Miami where he ultimately retired as a lieutenant for the Miami Police Department. He also served as a talented hostage negotiator and was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, the Miami Police Veterans Association and the Police Benevolent Association.
Dana loved being a cop but he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather even more. He was a great listener and someone his family or friends could lean on for support or advice.
Dana also loved photography and nature. He loved birdwatching, offshore fishing, or simply photographing birds or various events for his family and friends.
Other survivors include three children, Kelly Ann Wilcox (Barry) of Tallahassee; Dr. Kimberly Zgonc (Chad) of Melbourne; and David Caldwell of Tallahassee; seven grandchildren, Zachary; Mason; Carter; Maggie; Chloe; Harper and Henry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dana was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Jean Macdonald Caldwell; and one brother, John J. "Jock" Caldwell, Jr.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 in the Fellowship Hall at Faith Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
