Christine Tomberlin's Obituary
Christine Edwards Tomberlin (Chris), 101 years, passed away Monday, February 10, 2026, at the First Commerce Center for Compassionate Care at TMH in Tallahassee, FL. She was a long-time resident of Westminster Oaks.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 AM with the service beginning at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 13, 2026, at Seminole Baptist Church (SBC), 3330 Mission Road in Tallahassee. The burial will be at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, 1663 Providence Road in Greensboro.
Chris is survived by her children: Richard Tomberlin (Sylvia) of Tallahassee, Jerry Tomberlin of Ottawa, Canada, Pam Ashe-Oldaker of Tampa, and Paul Tomberlin (Amy) of Houston, TX; Ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Valma Cornell of Chapel Hill, NC and many nephews and nieces.
Chris was born in Sawdust Community of Gadsden County on September 1, 1924. She attended Greensboro High School. She and her late husband, Rev. R. P. Tomberlin, pastored the original SBC for 25 years and she is considered the “First Lady” of SBC. This ministry was followed by 12 years at Raleigh White in Albany, 10 years at Lake Talquin, and interim at several other churches in the region. She loved easily and was loved by many. She was a Godly role model and will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Christine's name to the Deacon’s Benevolent Fund at Seminole Baptist Church.
