Cavel Mevita Barrett's Obituary
CAVEL MEVITA BARRETT
Those we love, do not go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near
Still loved, still missed,
And very dear!
Cavel Mevita Barrett was born on December 26, 1954; being first born to the late Myrtle and Astley Barrett in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica.
She attended Montego Bay High School, (class of ’72); and Cornwall Regional Hospital Nursing School in Jamaica, after which she migrated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After a few years in Fort Lauderdale she moved to Tallahassee, to which she called home.
Moving to Tallahassee took her to Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, where she served as a nurse and retired after 34 years. She worked in various teams (Orthopaedic Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, Internal Medicine Residency Program and Family Medicine Residency Program) where she touched the lives of many.
Cavel had a big heart and was always giving of herself and time to family and friends. She enjoyed travelling, watching tennis, cooking and above all spending time with family and friends. She also contributed countless hours of services to local charities and her alma mater Montego Bay High School.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter Keisha Stone and son Daren Dinham, grandchildren Jasmin and Jordan, five brothers Danny, Junior, Val, Dale and Carl along with two sisters Shauna and Andrea and a host of nieces and nephews, extended families and friends.
Cavel was a mother to many outside of Keisha and Daren; a sister to many outside of her siblings; and an inspiration to all.
She died peacefully at Big Bend Hospice on May 23, 2021 with loved ones by her side. We love and miss you Cavel.
