Carol G. Buys' Obituary
Carol G. Buys, 81, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away peacefully at her assisted living residence on Sunday, January 21, 2024. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and beloved friend to many. Carol was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on June 26, 1942. She moved with her widowed mother and two brothers from Yonkers, New York, to Miami, FL in 1949. Carol Graduated from North Miami High School in 1960.
Carol was married to Richard Kent Buys of Miami, Florida, on January 14, 1961. They met in a youth group at North Miami Congregational Church where she also sang in the church choir. They moved from Miami to Tallahassee in 1972, where they continued to raise their three children and adopted another son. They also fostered several other children in Miami and later in Tallahassee. Carol had a strong maternal love and took immense joy in raising and caring for children.
Carol worked as an administrative assistant with various agencies in Tallahassee and completed a short career with the State of Florida after her children moved on to start their own lives.
Carol enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flower alike, and grew several fruit trees at her home. She loved to sew and made quite a few outfits and other items for her children and grandchildren. She and her husband, Dick, were avid square dancers and found life-long friends that shared their passion. Carol also loved to travel in her camper with her family on many family vacations and later with her husband as empty nesters enjoying the countryside. Carol loved viewing all types of flowers and fauna along her travels.
Carol was a member of Fellowship Presbyterian Church where one of her favorite volunteer activities was working with the sewing group called the Stitchers. She took great joy in attending church and loved hearing and singing the hymns. Her final journey took her through the confusion and agony of her dementia disease until she was called to Heaven.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, William Hanford, and her mother, Margaret C. Darche, her brothers, William Hanford, and Harold Hanford. She is survived by her husband Richard Kent Buys, her son Dale Buys (Penelope Davis), daughter Melanie Buys (Dr. Lacey Moore), son Glen Buys (Brenda Willer), adopted son Edward Buys, and seven grandchildren: Jonathan Buys (Haley Brill), Justin Buys (Lauren Holiday), Kyle Moore, Marlena Moore, Jayden Buys, Emelyn Buys, and Oriana Buys.
A private memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Fellowship Presbyterian Church, 3158 Shamrock Street South, Tallahassee, Florida.
