Calvin "David" Powell's Obituary
Calvin "David" Powell, age 84, of Tallahassee, Florida passed peacefully on December 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born December 18, 1940, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1958 and attended Florida State University. He retired from the Florida Department of Transportation, Roadway Design department, in 2003 after 38 years. He was a great writer and artist where he specialized in cartooning. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the golf course with family and friends.
David was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church in Hosford, Florida and Sumatra Baptist Church in Sumatra, Florida. He was a man of great integrity and compassion and was loved by all who knew him. He was one that always thought before he spoke and always saw the best in everyone. David’s humor and ability to fill a room with laughter was contagious. He devoted 35 years married to his wife, Frances. The two spent time enjoying the beach views, fishing from their dock at home, and spending time with family and friends.
David is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Frances Bailey Powell, daughters, Melanie Hill (Eric), and Erin Powell, son, Matthew Powell, daughter-in-law, Pat Fletcher, grandchildren, Jeremy Fletcher, Benjamin Fletcher, Jared Holcomb, Taylor Welsh (Bobby), Gage Hill (Jada), great grandchildren, Kinslee, Timberlynn, and Everleigh, his brother, Gary Powell (Ginger), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Cal Gene Powell and Eufaula Joyner Powell, his son, Jeremy Fletcher, and brothers, James Powell, Thomas Powell, and Louis Powell.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, December 26th, at Lifesong Funeral Home chapel, 20 S. Duval St. Quincy, FL. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 28th, at Corinth Baptist Church, 15816 Moore St. Hosford, FL 32334.
