Brunilda Milagros Betancourt's Obituary
Brunilda M. Betancourt Falcón, 70, originally of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, who lived in Tallahassee, Fla., for many years with her family, passed away peacefully Friday, November 13, 2020.
Brunilda, or Bruny, graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a degree in the humanities and settled with her family in Río Piedras, and later Bloomington, Ind., before moving to Tallahassee.
In Tallahassee, Bruny worked as a librarian at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and then the State Library of Florida. She volunteered at the library at Florida High (FSUS) School, which her children attended and graduated from.
Bruny loved her family and church, having been a member of different congregations through the years, including Unity of Tallahassee, where she was a Sunday School teacher and met her “Hermana Angels” friends. Bruny loved sharing music, food, and community with her friends and family and always had a welcoming smile and joyful hug for all who came through her home. She loved reading and sharing scripture, and could be counted on to offer comforting words during difficult times. Her sense of humor and light-hearted, happy spirit will be dearly missed.
Brunilda was preceded in death by her parents, Roberto and Iris (Melendez) Falcón, and two brothers, Roberto Falcón and José Falcón, all of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Antonio Betancourt, of 47 years; brothers Raul (Judy) Falcón and David Falcón, sister Sandra (Benjamin Perez) Falcón; children, Javier Betancourt, and Mariel (Vince) Jungkunz; and granddaughter, Liliana Jungkunz. Friends may visit Friday, November 20, from 1-3 pm at Bevis Funeral Home. The memorial service is at 3 pm. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
